Note: The most common problems with reception have to do with connection issues. Are all connections secure and hand tight? Are you using the proper connectors and color coding? Are you using a Set-Top Box? If so, is the cable coming from the wall connected to the IN jack on the cable box. If you’re not using a cable box, is the cable coming from the wall connected to the IN jack on either your auxiliary devices (VCR, DVD player) or your TV? 2. Good distribution amplifier Posted by: Gusman45 from: Houston, TX on This unit is similar to PCT and Airtronix distribution amplifier that boots your incoming signal from TV antenna or CATV so that you can feed up to 4 TVs. Average increase in signal strength is about 7.5 dB. In my case, the signal increase was not any more than what I was getting with an older amplifier. But in most cases the unit will be sufficient to improve your HDTV reception from weak signals. I recommend it. 18 out of 22 found this review helpful. Improved reception Posted…

One of the nice things about portable USB hard drives is the fact they can be operated with a single cable, taking all the power they need from the same cable handling data transfer. Now Western Digital is set to offer you the same convenience, but in a much faster external hard drive due to the use of Thunderbolt instead of USB 3.0. Western Digital has this week launched the My Passport Pro. It’s a portable hard drive that can be operated using a single Thunderbolt cable while offering up access to 2 or 4TB of storage space. As well as the single…

Digital cable filters for televisions are small, electronic components designed to fit between set-top boxes and cable outlets. They are also termed descramblers. In theory, the filter can receive broadcast signals so you can watch your favorite channels, but it does not send any signals back to the cable company you subscribe to. Purpose The purpose of a digital cable TV filter is that it can receive pay-per-view program signals but block pay per-view-billing signals. Apparently, the cable filter can be bought from companies that offer a service…

Last month, Microsoft confirmed that Windows Media Center would not be included in Windows 10. It was not a surprise, because almost no one uses Windows Media Center (it was only available as a paid add-on in Windows 8). But it is a shame, because Windows Media Center might be the best DVR software out there. And it should’ve killed the cable box. Cable boxes are, almost without exception, awful. They’re under-powed computers running very badly designed software. Their channel guides are slow, poorly laid out, and usually riddled with ads. Cable…
