Digital audio out Optical cable Samsung

I have a JU6700 and figured out how to get DD 5.1 from its optical output and only using the builtin HDMI. No need for a HDMI switcher. Considering this is a low-end Series 6 TV, I would expect it works on all higher Series Samsung models (I believe they all use the same SmartTV OS). I posted this in avsforum but I thought I would also post here. The issue was getting Dolby Digital selected Seems that the option to select Dolby Digital was grayed out and only PCM was selectable (well, and a DTS Neo 2:5 which I didn t know what that is). Sending…

What is an Optical Digital cable?

They are different media and also different protocols, despite they may carry the same thing (information). Optical digital cables carry light, a single light which is modulated (turned on and off) very fast in time, and those on-off s are interpreted as ones and zeroes. The Optical fibres may contain any sort of digital information, and because it is so fast you can pack millions of ones and zeroes in a single second, and the speed in bits/second can be really big. They (cheap ones) use a LED to generate light, adn a phototransnttor on the receptio…

Digital Optical audio cable VS HDMI

If you are faced with a choice between connecting your home theater or sound system with either optical audio or HDMI, it may be unclear which will provide the best sound. Both optical audio and HDMI support multi-channel audio, like Dolby Digital, but HDMI is capable of transmitting slightly higher quality than optical. Whichever you choose, both of these connections are usually preferable to analog connections like RCA connections. Optical Audio Optical cables use light to transmit the digital audio signal from the source device to the receiver…

Digital Optical cable Reviews

TOSLINK cables (also called optical digital cables) convey digital signals in the S/PDIF format from computers and audio sources to other pieces of consumer audio equipment. TOSLINK is an older digital standard which uses pulses of light traveling down a fiber optic cable to represent digital ones and zeroes. Due to the information being encoded via light instead of electrons on/in a wire, TOSLINK is immune to RF or EMF interference. In theory, TOSLINK conveys digital data perfectly, and any cable will do the job. However, issues such as cable reflectivity…
