Offers more options than RCA Posted by: NCGurl from: NC on I got this expecting the basics that RCA provided-just to get basic local channels with basic options for display. I can get ION and QVC/ other shopping channels as well as Bounce TV. The the volume button on the remote (for the converter) actually works (it didn't work with RCA)! Lower the volume on your tv remote and raise the volume on the converter remote for crisper sound. When flipping channels it displays what program is on and underneath it lists the program that is coming up next. I paired this with the same brand basic antenna and find stronger results than with the RCA brand. Of course results depend on where you are located but I do find that this converter offers more in configuration. Check mark the "Recognize Daylight Savings Time" box for the most accurate time, if applicable. A real good buy to access good tv.7 out of 7 found this review helpful.
I expect better Posted by: IAmNotAmused from: New York, NY on My first Insignia DTV converter displayed a info box on channel 11-3 which obscured the screen and I got stuck in 21 channels, the box stopped responding, had to turn it off to get past the glitch. The second DTV converter doesn't indiscriminately display a info box, but it is very difficult to change channels, (pressing a button can turn the box off, or the box will be slow to respond, or won't respond at all, ) seldom displays relevant information about shows you're watching, (information from earlier in the evening will still be displayed 6 hours later, ) and doesn't allow you to return to previously viewed channels, (you have to scroll through every channel or manually enter the channel.) My first DTV converter was a Maganavox and if I could find another, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm sorry to say that I DON'T RECOMMEND Insignia. A multitude of channels doesn't make up for it's unwieldiness and unreliability.6 out of 6 found this review helpful.
It is very competent Posted by: JKEIIT96 from: Chicago IL on When I first bought an Insignia Digital TV Converter box, it proved capable of receiving all channels and even a few more that I didn't know existed. This new Insignia wasn't quite as capable as that old Insignia Digital Converter, but was better than RCA, and a few other off brands I bought for myself, and also my brother. You MUST get a high quality POWERED antenna, and your cables MUST be of top quality in order to make the thing work. Connecting to a VCR proved troublesome, as you had to have the VCR the converter, and the TV on in order to watch TV at all.11 out of 11 found this review helpful.
Worth every penny Posted by: Brian from: on My wife and I don't have cable or dish so we wanted something to be able to still watch love Tv!!! This was the only box that I heard good things about and also gave a good antenna signal ability!!!1 out of 1 found this review helpful.
Don't buy this Posted by: EmJay from: Pittsburgh PA on The first one I bought (when over the air channels changed) was also by Insignia and it worked well, so when it stopped working I went back to Best Buy and bought the only model they had in the store. It was also Insignia so I bought it having had a decent experience with the first. The first problem is that you cannot connect component cables so the picture is junk. The signal is terrible even though I'm using the same antennae that used to perform pretty well. The other big problem is the options on the remote. To see what the other stations are pulling in you have to go into the menu which then mutes the sound. There is no "last" button nor a "favorite" button. How would the first box available be the more evolved of the two?9 out of 10 found this review helpful.
The box does just what it is supposed to do. Posted by: Shopperman from: on works great. clear crisp picture. It would have been great if the government was still paying 50%. The remote works much better than the original. Does everything as advertised. Posted by: Climar from: on I purchased this unit when my digital DVD recorder stopped working. A new one cost around $300 so I got out my old analog DVD recorder that I used from before the analog to digital TV airwave change about 8 years ago. The box was easy to setup with the "setup wizard". The box needs to be on and tuned to the proper channel for timer recording. Since the recorder needs to be on channel 3 to receive the signal, recording 2 shows when I'm not home on different channels(at different times of course) won't work. This is no fault of the box. The only drawback is that there is no display indicating what channel the box is tuned to. Not a deal breaker but that would be a nice feature. The box has a nice TV guide listing what is on now and what is on next. All in all I am happy with my purchase.2 out of 2 found this review helpful.
Easy Set Up Posted by: AudioPro from: Southeast Texas on Coupled with a digital antenna, this unit allows air reception of many of your standard TV stations. Please check your local listing to determine what you can actually receive. In our case, we get all 4 major networks, several of their affiliates plus our local public broadcasting affiliate. All in digital HD quality. OK, so it's not satellite or premium cable, it won't get you hundreds of channels, but the reception is HD, you have a reasonable selection of stations and . . . ITS FREE. Installation is basically plug and play. Plug it in, follow the on screen instructions and watch your TV. This is a great option if you're on a budget or, for that matter, any time or any place you need to convert an RF signal to DTV.5 out of 5 found this review helpful.
